When I was (much) younger, I used to draw and color a lot. Later on, I even took some evening classes to practice different techniques, but never got into painting much. Recently, I was drawn to trying it out - starting with pretty cheap (and poor) acrylic paint and discovering what I like and do not like. It's something that worked well during my treatment, as painting a small canvas does not take long, nor does it take a lot of effort, and it tends to keep you in flow.
Turns out I am a fan of playing with colors and textures. The internet is a good inspiration for techniques, but I struggled to find out what I wanted to paint, as any semi-realistic of figurative subject (a landscape for instance) did not come out right. I feel what works best for me is something where I put no discernible subject or pattern into what I do, and leave it up to the viewer to come up with what they feel or see in it. That's also the reason why I have a hard time naming paintings - that would also be up to the viewer.
